Hey everyone, I’m currently working in the print industry with no degree and no experience in digital marketing. I know I’ll need to work harder to catch up, but I’m not sure where to start. Should I get a certification or are there good online resources I can use? Any advice would be great!
You could start by taking Google’s certification courses on tools like Google Analytics. They’re very helpful!

I think it’s on Coursera now and might not be free anymore. Or maybe that’s a different course?
Try building soft skills like data analysis, understanding customer behavior, and the basics of digital marketing. It might be easier to land a job if you’re in a place where competition isn’t too high.
You don’t need a degree but you need real skills. Start learning and reading as much as you can. Maybe get a job at an agency as a virtual assistant or project manager to gain experience. Later, you could even start your own business.
@Neve
Totally agree. Companies care more about what you can do than how you learned it. Skills speak louder than degrees these days.
Step 1… Build a strong portfolio to showcase your skills. Step 2… Find recruiters who value talent over degrees. Visionary recruiters can spot marketing talent without a degree.
Start with free online courses and certifications. Apply what you learn by managing social media pages or small projects. Stay active on LinkedIn and spend a few hours daily learning. Here’s a beginner’s guide I found helpful: [link]
Learn the basics with free courses on sites like HubSpot Academy and Google Digital Garage. Manage social media for small businesses or your own projects to gain hands-on experience. Make a portfolio and network with people in the industry. Entry-level roles and internships can also help you grow.
I started freelancing as a content creator to learn SEO and used tools like Ahrefs. I also read a lot from SEO experts. Some say SEO is less important now with AI, but it’s worth exploring different paths in marketing. Good luck!

I’ve heard some negative feedback about Neil Patel. You might want to check out other SEO resources too.

True. I learned from Neil Patel back in 2018, but now I mostly develop my own SEO strategies. Maybe check out HubSpot instead. After learning the basics, creativity plays a big role in marketing.
Since you’re in the print industry, you might already understand marketing a bit. Digital marketing is huge with areas like SEO, paid ads, and social media. Start with one or two fields and grow from there. SEO might be a good place to begin since many people start with search. Check out free resources like Moz Academy and HubSpot Academy.
You’ll need some form of practical experience. Maybe start with internships or volunteer for small businesses to handle their social media. Hands-on work can teach you a lot and help you build a portfolio.
