Hi all, I’ve been curious about digital marketing and want to give it a try. How did you all get into it? Did you start with free resources or invest in paid courses? Is it something that can really pay off? How long did it take for you to start earning? Are there any success stories from people here?
I switched to digital marketing from engineering during the pandemic. I took a paid course because I was completely new. Making it profitable takes a lot of time and effort—expect at least 5-7 years of consistent learning and adapting. I got my first earnings a few months in, but it takes time to adjust. Plenty of people have made it big, but the competition is real. You’ll need to stay on top of trends and learn constantly.
I’m on this journey too! A marketer I follow just shared a great video on how he’d start digital marketing in 2025—check it out. HubSpot and Google have free courses that are fantastic. I’m doing one from HubSpot now, and it’s been super helpful.
I started small—doing social media posts, designing graphics, and writing SEO content. Over time, I gained more experience and eventually began managing projects. Now I head my department. Start where you can and build up from there.
Hey there! I started five months ago, and things are slowly picking up. I made my first sale on day 12 after buying a course to learn the basics. I’d be happy to share more details if you’re interested!
@Suki
Can you share the link to that course? I’d really appreciate it!
I’m happy to help! I work with brick-and-mortar businesses and share what I know on my channel. I transitioned from software engineering, started by marketing my own business, and later focused on local businesses. It’s competitive but worth it if you develop strong skills.
Why are you switching to digital marketing? Are you aiming for a job at an agency, a company, or freelancing? Each path is very different and needs different skills and approaches.

Good question—I want to freelance. It feels a bit unclear to me how to get started though.
Like any new skill, it takes time and effort to become good enough to charge for your work. I’d suggest learning part-time while keeping another source of income. Use free resources at first and invest in paid ones later. There’s so much out there to help you grow. Good luck!
I’ve been in marketing for about 10 years. I got my start at my dad’s firm, then moved on to work for a large company. I took marketing courses as part of my degree and kept learning along the way. If you’re thinking about going solo, be careful—there are tons of people selling courses with big promises but little value. It’s usually easier to build skills working for a company with a real budget before starting your own thing.
Hi! I’ve been doing digital marketing for a year now, and it’s been a wild ride. I started with courses and some done-for-you products, then created my own. I was able to automate my business after five months and quickly earned six figures. Let me know if you’d like my free guide to get started.
@Dorian
Were the courses you took paid? And yes, I’d love to see that free guide!
To anyone new: focus on learning the fundamentals of marketing before diving into the digital side. It’s all about understanding how to connect with your audience and solve their problems.
