Starting your own agency... Any tips?

You need to learn skills. I suggest working for an agency or two to see how they work. Work in media or with clients. Even better, do both.

Great idea. I’ve been applying to agencies, but it’s hard with my lack of experience.

Then try working for a small business as their marketing person.

Starting an agency is more of a way of thinking than a set method. Talk to someone with a problem, and then become their “agent” to solve it by hiring someone else to do the work. You don’t even need to be an expert, just find an expert who can help. A simple example is a cleaning “company.” They just find clients and cleaners, so they’re just “cleaning agencies.” You can start an agency to do anything if you like finding clients and workers. If you’d rather do the work yourself, it’ll be hard to start an agency because an agency is just sales and project management.

Starting a marketing agency can be rewarding. Build your skills and network first. Offer freelance services to gain experience and learn about client needs. Networking and word-of-mouth can be great for getting customers.

I used to have one and closed it. I knew a lot technically, but… Yeah, running a business wasn’t for me.
